Adam Ramsay-Peaty concluded his Commonwealth Games career with a silver medal in the men’s 4x100 metres medley relay on Thursday night in Glasgow, marking the end of a 12-year journey that began at the same venue. The 31-year-old breaststroke specialist, a three-time Olympic champion, had hoped to secure a final gold at his fourth Commonwealth Games but ultimately settled for second place behind a dominant Australian team.

Ramsay-Peaty swam the second leg of the relay, following opener Oliver Morgan. Edward Mildred and Jacob Mills completed the English quartet. Australia finished first, setting a new Games record with a time of 3 minutes 28.71 seconds, edging England by 1.97 seconds. Reflecting on his performance and that of the team, Ramsay-Peaty said it had been a “mixed boat” experience and acknowledged the challenges after a two-year hiatus from major championships. Looking ahead, he expressed optimism about future competitions, including the European Championships, saying the team has significant work to do.

In the women’s 4x100 metres medley relay, Scotland secured the silver medal behind Australia. Elsewhere in the pool, there were notable performances in individual events. In the men’s 200 metres freestyle final, England’s James Guy shared the silver medal with Wales’ Matt Richards, both recording a time of 1:45.72. The gold went comfortably to Australian Kai Taylor.

In the men’s 100 metres backstroke final, Oliver Morgan took silver for England with a time of 52.66 seconds, trailing South African Pieter Coetze, who won gold with a Games-record time of 51.77 seconds.

Scottish swimmer Angharad Evans added to her medal haul by capturing gold in the women’s 200 metres breaststroke, building on the 100 metres breaststroke title she secured on Sunday.

Ramsay-Peaty has indicated plans to continue competing, aiming for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
