Former England footballer Tony Adams has sold his eight-bedroom home in the Cotswolds as his wife, Poppy Teacher, prepares to return to university. The property, located on five acres near Cirencester, Gloucestershire, was purchased by the couple in 2002 and features amenities including a swimming pool, tennis courts, stables, and a two-bedroom cottage. Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher recently acquired the house for £4 million without the need for a mortgage.

Adams, 59, revealed the motivation behind the sale during an event at the National Liberal Club in Westminster, where he was promoting his new book, *1996: Reflections On The Year That Changed My Life*. He described the change as “a new era,” noting that the couple plans to relocate to London to accommodate Teacher’s academic pursuits.

Teacher, 52, will be studying early modern history, undertaking a master’s degree rather than the doctoral degree Adams initially mentioned. She remarked that her husband questioned the financial prospects of her chosen field, to which she replied that it is not about monetization. Despite this, Adams said he is proud of her decision.

The couple intends to rent in north London temporarily while searching for a permanent home, purposely steering clear of the Chelsea area, known for its association with the football club Adams famously defended during his career. Adams married Teacher in 2004, becoming his second wife following his recovery from alcoholism. The couple has three children together, and Adams has three children from his first marriage to Jane Shea.

Teacher expressed a desire to reengage intellectually and embrace a more urban lifestyle. She said she wants to "use my brain again" and enjoy cultural activities such as visiting galleries alongside her husband. The decision to leave their long-term country residence marks a significant shift for the family after more than two decades in the Cotswolds.
