Adan Hospital in Kuwait has successfully completed a rare reconstructive surgery to repair the lower portion of the right ureter using the appendix, utilizing minimally invasive laparoscopic techniques. The procedure was performed on a Kuwaiti woman in her twenties who was diagnosed with a complex stricture in the lower right ureter, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health on Saturday.
The surgery was led by Urology Consultant Dr. Ahmad Haraz and Dr. Faisal Al-Hajri, with support from Dr. Ali Al-Moamen. The patient was discharged in good condition on the third day following the operation.
The Ministry of Health highlighted that this advanced surgical procedure is rarely performed globally, underscoring the hospital’s growing expertise in specialized urological surgeries. It also emphasized that the success reflects Adan Hospital’s ongoing efforts to enhance surgical capabilities and broaden patient access to cutting-edge treatment options.
By employing laparoscopic techniques, the surgical team minimized invasiveness, potentially reducing recovery time and improving outcomes for the patient. The use of the appendix to reconstruct the ureter is considered innovative and demonstrates the hospital’s commitment to adopting sophisticated medical approaches.
This case represents a notable advancement in Kuwait’s healthcare services as Adan Hospital continues to expand its capacity to deliver specialized and complex treatments within the country.
