Chinese semiconductor companies have reported substantial profit increases in the third quarter, driven by growing demand for domestically produced chips and artificial intelligence (AI) infrastructure amid the country’s push for technological self-sufficiency. Several listed firms disclosed unaudited profit outlooks and revenue figures reflecting sharp gains linked to expanding applications in data centers and AI computing.
Shanghai-listed Yuanjie Semiconductor Technology, a producer of laser chips used in optical communications, projected a net profit between 403 million yuan (approximately HK$473 million) and 453 million yuan, marking a year-on-year increase of 579 to 660 percent. The company attributed this surge to robust data center shipments that also supported sustained high profit margins.
GPU designer MetaX, listed in Shanghai and pursuing a Hong Kong listing, reported a turnaround to profitability in the first nine months of 2026. The firm forecast net profit ranging from 587 million yuan to 717 million yuan, reversing a loss a year earlier, driven by rising orders and excluding one-time gains.
Hygon Information Technology, which supplies processors for both general computing and AI tasks, anticipated revenue growth of 50 to 64 percent for the January-to-September period. The company highlighted increasing customer preference for domestic chip alternatives over foreign suppliers.
Shenzhen-based storage device manufacturer Longsys Electronics projected net profit between 14 billion yuan and 14.9 billion yuan for the first nine months, roughly 20 times higher than the same period last year. The firm noted that while price increases for DRAM and NAND flash slowed in the third quarter, elevated memory prices remain supportive of profits. However, a recent Morgan Stanley report cautioned that memory prices could soften in 2027 if supply outpaces demand or if customer spending slows, even if AI-related demand remains stable.
Optical module supplier Aceelnick Technologies forecast net profit growth of 65 to 82 percent for the first nine months, citing ongoing investment in AI infrastructure worldwide and continued data center expansion by Chinese cloud service providers.
Xian Eswin Material Technology, a silicon wafer supplier, said its production operated at full capacity with sales volumes increasing about 43 percent to 8.3 million wafers. The company reported a net profit of approximately 151 million yuan during the period, bolstered by gains from investments in its customers’ initial public offerings, but indicated a net loss would have occurred excluding these non-recurring items.
Industry research firm TrendForce projected in August that chips designed in China would represent nearly 90 percent of the country’s high-end AI processor market in 2026, underscoring the rapid growth of domestic chip manufacturing. Materials suppliers are also benefiting from this expansion; Hubei Feilihua Quartz Glass forecast a 35 to 56 percent increase in net profit for the first nine months due to stronger semiconductor demand and import substitution opportunities.
Overall, the robust earnings forecasts from mainland Chinese chipmakers reflect accelerated efforts to build AI capacity and reduce dependence on foreign technology amid a strategic focus on self-reliance in semiconductors.
