Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence company behind the Claude chatbot, has announced a vacancy for a personal assistant in London with an annual salary of £145,000. The role aims to provide "error-free" administrative support to senior business leaders despite the company’s extensive use of AI tools designed to handle similar tasks.

The position, titled administrative business partner, involves managing calendars, monitoring email inboxes, and organizing travel logistics for the company’s go-to-market executives. The job listing emphasizes the need for candidates with exceptional organizational skills, a meticulous approach to task execution, and the ability to build strong relationships. The assistant would also be responsible for delivering seamless, welcoming experiences to in-person visitors and managing sensitive or confidential information.

While AI technologies continue to advance in automating office functions, the advertisement implicitly acknowledges current limitations in relying solely on AI for administrative support. Studies indicate that many businesses have encountered AI-generated errors; one recent survey found that 64 percent of companies had detected “confidently wrong” answers from AI agents. This has contributed to ongoing skepticism about AI’s accuracy and reliability in critical roles.

Anthropic’s chief executive, Dario Amodei, has previously forecast that AI could replace up to half of all entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030. However, the company’s active search for a human assistant highlights the continued relevance of human oversight and interpersonal skills in the workplace. Similarly, Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, initially predicted that AI would eliminate entire job categories but later revised his perspective, citing the irreplaceable value of human interaction for many daily tasks.

While roles such as personal assistants may remain secure for the time being, other professions might face greater disruption. Analysis by AI-text detection firm Pangram found that over 60 percent of the recruitment advertisement showed signs of being drafted or edited by AI, pointing toward growing automation in content creation and related fields.

Anthropic recently expanded its operations in the U.K. by opening a new office in King’s Cross, London, with the capacity to employ up to 800 staff members. This move significantly increases the company’s footprint in Britain, potentially quadrupling its local workforce.
