Artificial intelligence companies Anthropic and OpenAI are projected to generate significantly higher revenues over the next year than traditional American corporations such as McDonald’s and Starbucks, reflecting the rapid expansion of AI across multiple industries.

Anthropic, known for its Claude AI tool, is expected to bring in approximately $71 billion in revenue, while OpenAI’s annual revenue is forecasted at around $49 billion. In comparison, Starbucks is predicted to generate about $37.2 billion, and McDonald’s approximately $29.6 billion from its food and beverage sales. Combined, Anthropic and OpenAI’s projected earnings nearly match the total revenue of McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Yum Brands—the parent company of Taco Bell and KFC.

This surge in revenue illustrates the magnitude of investment in AI technologies within corporate America. Companies are channeling hundreds of billions of dollars into modernizing operations and integrating AI into their workflows. Anthropic, founded just five years ago, has raised over $100 billion in funding and was valued at $965 billion as of May, according to the company’s information.

Anthropic has cultivated a diverse portfolio of commercial clients spanning finance, healthcare, and technology sectors. The company continues to expand partnerships with major cloud service providers including Amazon Web Services and Google Cloud. Meanwhile, OpenAI has broadened its ChatGPT Enterprise offering and is securing contracts with businesses seeking AI-driven productivity solutions.

Although Starbucks and McDonald’s have established global presences over many decades—operating a combined total of more than 80,000 locations worldwide—the swift adoption and integration of AI technologies by businesses appear to be outpacing the growth of these longstanding consumer brands.

The data highlights a shifting economic landscape where technology-driven companies in the AI space are emerging as dominant revenue generators, challenging traditional industries long regarded as market leaders.
