EssilorLuxottica, the world’s leading eyewear manufacturer, reported a 7.2 percent increase in sales for the second quarter, reaching 7.7 billion euros. The company attributed this growth largely to a sharp rise in sales of AI-enabled eyeglasses, which nearly doubled compared to the same period last year.
Francesco Milleri, EssilorLuxottica’s CEO, highlighted the broad expansion of AI glasses sales across global markets and diverse consumer segments, noting that the product line is delivering sustainable profits. This growth underscores the company’s ongoing strategic focus on integrating advanced technologies into its eyewear offerings.
Earlier in the year, EssilorLuxottica introduced a new range of AI-enabled glasses under the Ray-Ban brand, developed in collaboration with Meta. This product line targets a younger demographic that is more sensitive to price, reflecting the company’s efforts to diversify its customer base and capture emerging market opportunities.
However, the company’s share price experienced a decline following the release of its first-quarter results. Some analysts expressed concern that investor sentiment had shifted, viewing AI eyeglasses less as a growth opportunity and more as a potential risk in terms of market adoption and profitability.
Despite this market skepticism, EssilorLuxottica’s second-quarter results demonstrate strong momentum in the AI glasses segment, reinforcing its position in the evolving eyewear market.
