President Donald Trump has increasingly employed AI-generated imagery on his Truth Social platform amid mounting challenges to his administration, including low approval ratings and ongoing tensions surrounding efforts to resolve the conflict with Iran. Over recent weeks, Trump has shared a series of digitally created images depicting himself alongside prominent historical American figures, particularly George Washington, in settings that appear designed to enhance his presidential legacy.

Earlier this month, Trump posted multiple AI-generated images showing him standing or seated with Washington in a recreated White House ballroom. The visuals include scenes of the pair looking into the distance, reviewing documents, and on horseback, with Washington portrayed on a white horse and Trump on a black one. A more recent post featured a video of the two men walking through the same ballroom, gesturing toward the ceiling as though assessing its construction.

Observers suggest these images reflect Trump’s desire to associate himself with the nation’s founding father. Angelo Carusone, president and CEO of the media watchdog group Media Matters, said the imagery signals Trump’s aspiration to be regarded “on par with, or even potentially better than, George Washington,” framing himself as a modern-day founder. Carusone added that AI technology allows Trump to externalize and share this self-image.

Requests for comment from the White House on whether Trump believes he actually met Washington went unanswered, though a spokesperson emphasized the role of Truth Social as the president’s “authentic voice” for communicating directly with the public.

The emphasis on the White House ballroom also ties to Trump’s stated ambition to leave a tangible legacy through its completion and naming. Carusone noted efforts to brand parts of Washington, D.C., with Trump’s name, comparing it to how landmarks bearing Washington’s name were established posthumously, describing it as a “living mausoleum.”

In addition to the images with Washington, Trump has shared AI-generated content depicting himself in military uniform alongside renowned World War II generals George Patton and Douglas MacArthur. In one such image, he wears an array of medals exceeding those of the generals combined, standing on a battlefield with burning tanks in the background. This appears to reinforce an attempt to cultivate a reputation not only as a builder but as a victorious wartime leader.

The release of these AI images coincides with reports of low morale and challenging conditions aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln after a record deployment, as well as ongoing scrutiny over Trump’s handling of the Iran conflict. The images may represent a strategic effort to shape public perception amid these difficulties.
