Abu Dhabi is advancing its capabilities in hazardous materials management through the integration of agentic artificial intelligence (AI) technology. The Abu Dhabi Hazardous Materials Management Centre (ADHMMC) has entered into a partnership with technology firm Presight to enhance the emirate’s monitoring and response systems for hazardous materials.

The collaboration aims to leverage AI to analyze data from diverse sources continuously, identify unusual patterns and risk indicators, and prioritize threats to enable faster and more effective responses by specialized teams. This effort seeks to reduce the interval between the detection of potential hazards and the implementation of appropriate measures.

The planned AI applications cover the entire lifecycle of hazardous materials within Abu Dhabi — from their entry into the emirate, transport, storage, and trading, to their use, treatment, recycling, or safe disposal. ADHMMC and Presight intend to pinpoint priority areas for the technology’s deployment before developing prototypes. These will undergo testing in controlled environments to assess performance based on metrics such as detection speed, alert accuracy, response time, decision-making quality, and overall operational efficiency.

Matar Muaded Almheiri, Acting Director General of ADHMMC, emphasized the potential benefits of adopting agentic AI. He highlighted that the technology would enable more precise monitoring of evolving conditions, earlier identification of risks, and quicker decision-making. “It will also expand the use of data and analytics through agentic AI to monitor evolving conditions, anticipate risks and accelerate decision-making,” Almheiri said.

This initiative aligns with Abu Dhabi’s broader efforts to strengthen safety protocols and improve the management of hazardous materials through innovative technological solutions.
