Wonderful, a rapidly growing Dutch-Israeli artificial intelligence start-up, has established a new office in London’s Covent Garden as part of its expansion into the UK market. Founded just 18 months ago, the company was valued at $5 billion last month following a $550 million funding round involving investors such as Salesforce, Index Ventures, and Insight Partners. Wonderful now employs over 700 people across 35 countries and plans to hire hundreds of staff at its London location.
The company aims to address a significant challenge faced by many UK businesses: the difficulty of achieving meaningful returns on investment from AI initiatives. Jason du Preez, Wonderful’s UK chief operating officer, highlighted that while many British firms have active AI programmes and adopted tools early, few have demonstrated clear, coherent benefits in productivity or profitability. Supporting this, an Accenture report found that only 10 percent of UK businesses have successfully used AI to boost productivity throughout their operations.
Wonderful’s approach involves deploying its engineers directly to client organisations to help design custom AI software tailored to their specific needs, built on top of its proprietary platform. This platform functions as an intermediary layer between the business and underlying AI models, and is model agnostic, enabling it to route queries dynamically to various AI providers. According to du Preez, the company collaborates with leading AI firms to ensure the best fit for each use case. Its system factors in data sensitivity, cost, and task requirements when selecting the most appropriate AI model.
In addition to developing bespoke solutions, Wonderful focuses on client empowerment by training companies to independently build and scale their AI systems over time. Customers are also able to export the software they create on the platform, reflecting the company’s philosophy against fostering long-term dependencies. Du Preez emphasized that the organisation does not seek to lock clients into exclusive arrangements.
With the fresh capital infusion and new UK office, Wonderful aims to capitalise on the growing appetite for AI transformation among British enterprises, positioning itself as a key player in delivering practical, measurable outcomes from artificial intelligence technologies.
