Ayeyawady Region Chief Minister U Aye Kyaw visited flood-affected areas in Khattu Village-tract, Laymyethna Township, Hinthada District, on the morning of August 2 to provide assistance and assess ongoing relief efforts. Accompanied by regional officials, the chief minister distributed rice, drinking water, and essential food supplies to residents taking shelter at village monasteries.
In addition to providing aid, the visit focused on ensuring the continuity of critical infrastructure. Officials coordinated efforts to maintain communication networks and secure fuel supplies for government agencies, social organizations, and local communities. They also arranged for the provision of solar power systems and generators to keep phones and other electrical devices charged for those impacted by the floods.
U Aye Kyaw inspected healthcare services offered to flood victims at the Ywathitsu Village Dhamma Hall and monitored erosion prevention activities underway at the Stumukha Pagoda. These preventive measures are critical in mitigating further damage caused by seasonal flooding and riverbank erosion.
Simultaneously, Deputy Minister for Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation U Bo Bo Kyaw led an inspection team assessing riverbank protection works. The initiatives include installing geo bag structures, placing sandbags supported by bamboo barriers, and reinforcing both sides of a 120-foot water inlet to reduce water flow velocity. The team reviewed ongoing measurement surveys and preparations of materials for embankment maintenance, which aim to strengthen flood defenses.
During the visit, the chief minister emphasized the need to expedite the delivery of sand, stones, and machinery from nearby locations to bolster erosion control efforts. These actions are designed to safeguard the embankment from strong water currents and minimize the risk of further riverbank degradation.
The coordinated response by regional authorities reflects a commitment to support affected communities through relief distribution, infrastructure maintenance, and protective engineering works in an area vulnerable to seasonal flooding and erosion.
