The Maharashtra state government has approved naming the Indigenous Cow Research and Training Centre under the College of Agriculture, Pune, part of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, after Ajit Pawar. The decision was officially announced on Wednesday.

The centre, initiated by Ajit Pawar, focuses on the conservation and improvement of valuable and rare indigenous cattle breeds. Its role extends to enhancing milk production and providing guidance to farmers to promote sustainable agriculture practices. The naming of the centre after Pawar is intended to honor his contributions and preserve the memory of his efforts in this field.

Established at the College of Agriculture in Pune, the centre undertakes scientific conservation, breeding improvements, and research on native cattle breeds. It aims to support the traditional knowledge associated with indigenous cows while advancing agricultural sustainability through innovation and education for the farming community.
