A Dhaka court on Tuesday denied bail to former lawmaker Major (retired) Akhtaruzzaman in a case involving the alleged assault of an on-duty security officer and obstruction of government operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport. The decision was made by Judge Md Sadekin Habib Bappi of the Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court-5, according to Akhtaruzzaman’s defense lawyer Abdur Razzak.

The case was filed on October 2 by airport security official Mohammad Shahriar Alam Sajib at the Airport Police Station. Akhtaruzzaman was arrested the same day at his residence in Dhaka Cantonment. Following his arrest, a court granted authorities a one-day remand to question him on October 3.

Subsequently, a magistrate rejected Akhtaruzzaman’s initial bail petition, leading to his detention at a jail facility on October 4. The charges center on allegations that Akhtaruzzaman assaulted a security official while on duty and interfered with government functions at the country’s main international airport.

Legal proceedings remain ongoing as the former lawmaker continues to contest the accusations, while authorities maintain the charges related to the incident at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.
