Qatar concluded its equestrian events at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games with two medals, as Faleh Sweid al-Ajami captured individual show jumping gold and Bassem Mohammed earned bronze on October 4 in Japan. These efforts contributed to Qatar’s overall medal count of 18, comprising six gold, six silver, and six bronze.

Al-Ajami, riding his relatively new mount Wathan Qapella, secured the Individual A title after a tightly contested jump-off. The duo posted a time of 40.88 seconds, narrowly surpassing Abdullah al-Muhairi of the United Arab Emirates, who finished in 41.93 seconds. Saudi Arabia’s Khaled Almobty took bronze with a time of 45.35 seconds. Speaking after the victory, al-Ajami acknowledged the pressure of being the first competitor in the jump-off. This marked al-Ajami’s first individual Asian Games medal, coming two decades after his debut in endurance at Doha 2006. Since then, he transitioned from endurance to show jumping and finished ninth individually at the Hangzhou Games, where he also helped Qatar capture a team silver. Al-Ajami noted pride in his mare’s performance over the three-day competition and highlighted the recent partnership with Wathan Qapella, which began earlier this season.

Earlier the same day, Bassem Mohammed secured bronze in the Individual B category, adding a second Qatari show jumping medal on the final day. The gold in this event went to Saudi Arabia’s Ramzy al-Duhami, with Abdulrahman al-Rajhi taking silver. Al-Duhami and his 13-year-old mare Untouchable 32 completed their round in 42.59 seconds. Although al-Rajhi and his horse Lorenzo ES recorded a faster raw time of 39.73 seconds, they incurred eight penalties due to faults at the first element of the double combination and the final fence, which relegated them to second place. Mohammed, riding Chaccball, also finished with eight penalties in 43.26 seconds, securing the bronze.

These equestrian successes rounded out a strong overall performance for Qatar at the Asian Games. As the nation looks ahead to hosting the 21st Asian Games in Doha in 2030, officials and athletes alike aim to build on the achievements demonstrated in Japan.
