Al Amerat, Saham, Seeb, and Ibri have secured spots in the semifinals of the 2026 Senior Team Table Tennis Championship following a series of quarterfinal victories on October 10. The tournament, which began on October 8 in Muscat, is set to conclude on Sunday.

In the quarterfinal round, Al Amerat defeated Taqah 3-0, while Saham narrowly edged past Masirah 3-2 in the closest match of the stage. Seeb overcame Nakhal 3-1, and Ibri recorded a similar 3-1 win against Salalah, completing the lineup for the semifinals.

The upcoming semifinal matchups pit Al Amerat against Saham and Seeb against Ibri. The winners will advance to Sunday’s final, with the losing teams competing for third place.

The championship started with 15 clubs divided into three groups, each playing a single round-robin preliminary phase. Eight teams advanced to the quarterfinals. Group One included Seeb, Salalah, Al Suwaiq, Al Amerat, and Qurayat, with Al Amerat topping the group by winning all four matches and accumulating eight points. Seeb and Salalah followed with seven and six points, respectively. Ibri led Group Two undefeated with eight points after victories over Al Bashayer, Bahla, Mirbat, and Masirah. Masirah and Al Bashayer also progressed from this group. Group Three saw Saham secure first place with four wins, followed by Nakhal and Taqah, who both advanced before being eliminated in the quarterfinals.

Participants noted an uptick in the competition level compared to previous years. Seeb player Nasser bin Saif al Balushi highlighted the increasing presence of stronger foreign professionals recruited by clubs and the benefits local players gain through international exposure. Al Balushi expressed confidence in Seeb’s chances, referencing multiple recent final appearances and aiming to capture the title this year.

Nakhal’s Fahad bin Hamad al Abri described the tournament as highly competitive and enjoyable, emphasizing the valuable contribution of foreign players from countries such as France and Iran. He underlined Nakhal’s goal to maintain a consistent presence in future competitions and to develop players capable of strong performances across various categories.

French competitor Vincent Picard, marking his debut in the Muscat championship, spoke positively about integrating with his team and adapting to the competition environment. Picard said his team entered the semifinals with confidence, having topped their group and overcome leading rivals during the preliminary round.

As the championship approaches its final stages, all eyes will be on the four semifinalists to determine who will claim the 2026 title.
