Oman’s publicly traded investment firm Al Batinah Development & Investment Holding Company SAOG has finalized the full acquisition of the country’s first dedicated veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturer, a move aimed at enhancing domestic production capacity and reducing reliance on imports. The transaction, disclosed to the Muscat Stock Exchange on October 25, elevated Al Batinah’s ownership stake in Al Pharabi Company for Veterinary Medicines and Agricultural Company LLC from 65 percent to 100 percent.
Following the acquisition, the company was renamed Oryx Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Industries SPC, now operating as a wholly owned subsidiary of Al Batinah. The facility, located in Al Buraimi Industrial City, covers approximately 10,000 square meters and produces veterinary medicines, nutritional supplements, and other formulations critical to Oman’s livestock and agricultural sectors.
The original project was developed in partnership with Syria-based Al Pharabi Company for Veterinary and Agricultural Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd, a regional manufacturer known for its extensive portfolio of registered veterinary products. The plant received regulatory approval for commercial production in February 2024, becoming Oman’s first facility of its kind. Initially, the plant operates three production lines dedicated to capsules, liquids, and powders, with plans to expand to six lines, which will include injectable medicines, sterilizing products, ointments, vitamins, and animal feed additives.
This acquisition is part of broader efforts to build domestic veterinary pharmaceutical manufacturing capabilities. It supports Oman’s government objectives to enhance food security, safeguard animal health, and strengthen national biosecurity measures. By producing essential veterinary medicines locally, the country aims to diversify its supply chain, reducing vulnerability to international disruptions and improving the availability of healthcare products for farmers and agricultural businesses.
In July 2025, the company obtained regulatory approvals for registering several products and issuing free-sale certificates, positioning it to explore export opportunities in regional and international markets. This development marks a strategic step toward bolstering Oman’s agricultural infrastructure and veterinary healthcare industry.
