Al Batinah North Governorate in Oman is advancing its economic and urban development ambitions with investment commitments exceeding $30 billion. The region, which includes the strategic Sohar Port and Free Zone, is home to nearly 940,500 residents and hosts more than 1,900 companies representing 49 countries, supported by an Omanisation rate of approximately 94 percent.

Under the leadership of Mohammed bin Sulaiman al Kindi, Governor of Al Batinah North, the governorate is executing its 2026–2030 Strategic Plan aligned with Oman Vision 2040. The plan prioritizes economic diversification, digital transformation, enhanced service delivery, and improved quality of life. Key initiatives target infrastructure and urban growth to boost tourism, attract private sector investment, and upgrade public amenities across its six wilayats.

Several landmark projects are underway to reinvigorate urban areas. The Shinas Waterfront Project aims to rejuvenate the historic town centre through the creation of a seaside promenade, a mangrove park, and new hospitality ventures. In Liwa, a RO 2.1 million entrance development is progressing, currently halfway through completion, focused on upgrading roads, expanding green spaces, and establishing pedestrian walkways and cycling paths.

Suhar is preparing to transform Wadi Salan into an integrated urban hub featuring zones for investment, tourism, and recreation. The Majis Waterfront Project, a collaborative effort involving the governorate and energy firm OQ, is under construction with an estimated cost of RO 1.75 million and is slated for completion by the end of 2026.

Economic data reflect rising investor confidence in the region. By the close of 2025, Al Batinah North had recorded a total of 54,603 commercial registrations, including 4,271 new registrations during the year, while commercial license completions reached 91,368. These figures benefit from ongoing reforms aimed at enhancing the business environment and streamlining administrative processes.

The governorate is also capitalizing on broader national infrastructure developments, further supporting its role as a vital economic corridor within Oman. Through these efforts, Al Batinah North is positioning itself to serve as one of the country’s principal engines of growth, combining industrial expansion, logistics, and sustainable urban development.
