Al Buraimi Governorate in Oman is increasingly establishing itself as a major trade gateway, bolstered by expanding infrastructure, streamlined customs processes, and rising industrial investment. Situated on the border with the United Arab Emirates, the governorate serves as a crucial logistics and commercial hub, connecting Omani markets to regional and international trade routes.
The strategic location of Al Buraimi, enhanced by modern road networks, land ports, and its closeness to Gulf seaports and airports, has attracted significant investment while facilitating efficient cross-border movement of goods. A key development supporting this growth is the implementation of the Bayan electronic clearance system, which has sped up customs procedures, reducing processing times for commercial shipments and aiding transit and re-export operations.
Saeed bin Abdullah al Balushi, Director-General of Al Buraimi Industrial City, highlighted that total investment in the industrial city has surpassed 280 million Omani rials (RO). The industrial city covers an area of 5.5 million square meters and hosts over 370 projects spanning industrial, commercial, and service sectors, with additional land reserved for expansion.
In addition to large-scale industries, Al Buraimi is experiencing significant growth in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly in logistics, construction, and service industries. This rise is reflected in the increasing number of commercial registrations in retail, wholesale, and supply sectors, signaling a diversified and dynamic local economy.
Government institutions are actively working to enhance the business climate through initiatives such as the One-Stop Shop service and the Invest in Oman platform. These efforts aim to simplify procedures for investors, facilitating the establishment and expansion of businesses in the governorate.
Infrastructure and development projects are ongoing across Al Buraimi’s three wilayats, including new commercial ventures in Al Rawdah and upgrades to the road network linking border crossings. These initiatives are part of broader plans to reinforce Al Buraimi’s status as a regional hub for trade, logistics, and investment.
These developments align with Oman’s wider economic diversification goals set out in Oman Vision 2040. By leveraging Al Buraimi’s strategic location and improving its logistical capabilities, the Sultanate aims to reduce reliance on hydrocarbons and promote sustainable growth through expanded trade and industry.
