Later Sunday, Al-Arabi took the field against Al-Jahra, hoping to claim their first win of the campaign after opening with an entertaining 3-3 draw against Kuwait SC. In that match, Al-Arabi twice held the lead but conceded a stoppage-time goal that denied them victory. Under coach Goran Sablic, the team is focused on turning promising performances into full points. Al-Arabi holds an advantage on paper against Al-Jahra, a club that registered only three wins last season.
Al-Arabi made a significant roster change prior to this fixture, officially parting ways with Brazilian forward Lucas Shallon. However, the club retains its other five foreign players, including Senegalese Joher Rasoul, Brazilians Leonardo Sheldon and Anayo Iwuala, Palestinian Zaid Qanbar, and Ethiopian Kenan Malenko.
Al-Jahra, coached by Ahmed Abdulkarim, entered the match seeking to recover from a 3-2 loss to Al-Shabab in the opening round. The club faced the added complication of missing all five of its foreign players from the initial game, an issue that continues to affect the squad’s competitiveness. Despite finishing at the bottom of the table last season, Al-Jahra demonstrated resilience by holding Al-Arabi to a 1-1 draw in a May friendly, suggesting they remain capable of challenging their opponents.
The round was set to continue on Monday with a high-profile clash between title contenders Al-Qadsia and Kuwait SC, alongside Al-Sulaibikhat facing Al-Shabab. It will conclude on Tuesday with Kazma hosting Al-Sahel and Al-Tadamon meeting Al-Salmiya, rounding out an early-stage schedule that promises to shape the trajectory of the Zain Premier League season.
