Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, visited the embassies of Pakistan and India in Doha to offer condolences following a fatal incident at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City on June 21.

Al-Kaabi met with Pakistan’s ambassador to Qatar, Muhammad Aamer, and conveyed his condolences on behalf of QatarEnergy employees and the wider energy sector to the family of the Pakistani national who was among the victims. He expressed solidarity with the people of Pakistan, emphasizing the shared grief over the loss of innocent lives, and extended prayers for the victims and wished a swift recovery to those injured.

Similarly, Al-Kaabi visited the Indian embassy in Doha and met with Indian ambassador Vipul to offer condolences to the government and people of India. During the visit, he reiterated the tragedy’s impact, conveying sympathy to the families of the Indian nationals who lost their lives and wishing a speedy recovery for those injured.

The explosion and subsequent fire at the Barzan gas plant on June 21 resulted in the deaths of 13 individuals, including 12 Indian nationals and one Pakistani national. The incident also caused injuries to 66 people, with authorities reporting that none of the cases were life-threatening.

The Barzan facility, located within Ras Laffan Industrial City, is an integral part of Qatar’s gas supply infrastructure. Details regarding the cause of the explosion have not been made public at this time. The incident has prompted expressions of mourning and concern from Qatar’s energy sector and diplomatic representatives, highlighting the human impact of the accident on foreign workers and their families.
