Saad bin Sherida al-Kaabi, Qatar’s Minister of State for Energy Affairs and President and CEO of QatarEnergy, extended condolences to the governments and people of Pakistan and India following a fatal incident at the Barzan gas facility in Ras Laffan Industrial City.

On June 21, an explosion and subsequent fire occurred at the Barzan local gas supply facility, resulting in the deaths of 13 individuals and injuring 66 others. Among the deceased, one was a Pakistani national and 12 were Indian nationals. Authorities reported no life-threatening injuries among those wounded.

In separate visits to the embassies of Pakistan and India in Doha, HE al-Kaabi met with ambassadors Muhammad Aamer and Vipul, respectively, to express sympathy and solidarity on behalf of QatarEnergy employees and the broader Qatari energy sector. He conveyed condolences to the victims’ families as well as to the governments and citizens of the two nations.

“It is a tragedy that affects us all,” al-Kaabi stated, emphasizing the shared grief over the loss of innocent lives. He offered prayers for the deceased and wished a swift recovery to those injured in the incident.

The Barzan gas plant is part of Qatar’s extensive energy infrastructure at Ras Laffan Industrial City, a strategic site for the country’s natural gas industry. The cause of the explosion and fire has not been publicly disclosed as investigations continue.
