The Governorate of Al Sharqiyah North has initiated a series of development projects totaling RO 34 million across its wilayats as part of its 2026 municipal improvement plan. These efforts, led by Al Sharqiyah North Municipality, aim to enhance infrastructure and public services in line with Oman Vision 2040 and the governorate’s sustainable development goals.
Eng. Nasser bin Khamis al Hasani, Director-General of Al Sharqiyah North Municipality, outlined that the plan prioritizes the modernization of the road network to improve residents’ quality of life. Of the total budget, RO 17.86 million is allocated for paving more than 170 kilometers of internal roads, while RO 5.83 million is designated for the rehabilitation and maintenance of damaged roadways. An additional RO 850,000 will be spent on road safety improvements, including new markings and enhancements throughout the governorate.
Beyond transportation infrastructure, the municipality is focusing on community facilities and environmental upgrades. Investments include RO 1.3 million for the construction and enhancement of public parks and walkways, alongside RO 666,900 for street lighting installation and landscaping projects. The plan also sets aside RO 180,000 for completing outstanding works on multi-purpose community halls and RO 295,000 aimed at critical rainwater drainage systems and wadi protection barriers.
Several key projects related to tourism and leisure are also underway. The development of natural water pools in the Wilayat of Wadi Bani Khalid, with a budget of RO 2.66 million, is currently 43 percent complete. This initiative follows last year’s extensive road paving effort, which covered 460 kilometers across all wilayats with an investment of nearly RO 54 million, marking one of the most significant infrastructure undertakings in the area.
In addition, construction progress continues on other recreational sites. Al Khalidiya Park in Wadi Bani Khalid is 78 percent complete with a cost of RO 780,000, while Al Ghubra Park in Dima W’attayeen stands at 44 percent completion following an investment of RO 661,000. The development of Hawar Cafe is nearing completion at 97 percent, funded at RO 153,000.
These projects reflect a broad commitment by Al Sharqiyah North’s local government to improve public amenities, stimulate tourism, and support sustainable growth in the governorate.
