Al Sharqiyah South Governorate, in collaboration with the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and the Oman Energy Institute, conducted a training programme on September 1 aimed at enhancing government officials’ understanding of the ongoing transformation in the energy sector. The initiative focused on equipping administrative and leadership personnel with the skills and knowledge needed to navigate emerging trends in energy and to leverage these changes for economic growth and diversification.
The training sessions addressed key topics including the evolving global energy landscape, the drivers behind the energy transition, the integration of diverse energy sources, and strategies for improving energy efficiency and reducing emissions. It also explored the changing role of the oil and gas sector amid global shifts and the potential opportunities that these transitions may present specifically for Oman’s economy.
Officials engaged in discussions on strengthening institutional capacity and leadership capabilities to better anticipate international developments and convert them into actionable development and investment opportunities. This focus reflects wider efforts within Al Sharqiyah South Governorate to prepare its workforce to respond effectively to economic and technological changes.
The programme aligns with Oman Vision 2040, particularly its objectives surrounding governorate-level development and the promotion of sustainable cities. Additionally, the initiative emphasized the importance of coordination between government bodies and specialized energy organizations to raise awareness of the opportunities stemming from the energy transition and to ensure that local development strategies support Oman’s long-term economic sustainability goals.
