A team of specialists from Al Nahdha Hospital recently conducted two oral and maxillofacial surgeries at Al Suwaiq Hospital, marking the first time such procedures have been performed at the facility. The surgeries, which took place in early July, are part of a broader effort to decentralize and expand specialized medical services across the governorates of Oman.

By performing these operations locally, Al Suwaiq Hospital aims to reduce the need for patient referrals to larger hospitals in other regions, making it easier for residents to access advanced care closer to home. This initiative supports the Ministry of Health’s strategy to enhance healthcare delivery by improving integration between referral centers and regional health establishments.

Dr. Salma bint Musallam al Jahdhami, Head of the Department of Dentistry, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Al Nahdha Hospital, highlighted the significance of this milestone. She explained that the surgeries align with ongoing efforts to develop medical expertise and strengthen collaboration between major hospitals and smaller health facilities. This approach is intended to raise the quality of healthcare services and improve accessibility for patients throughout Oman.

Al Nahdha Hospital continues to lead in implementing specialized medical programs in various governorates, reinforcing the country’s commitment to advancing medical care while reducing the burden on referral hospitals. The recent surgeries at Al Suwaiq reflect this policy in action, providing a model for future expansion of specialized treatments outside primary referral centers.
