The Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, through its General Directorate of Endowments, announced that over 34,000 students are currently enrolled in Qur’anic centers and schools supported by the Al-Utrujah Endowment across the country. A workforce of more than 1,500 male and female teachers serve these students at 176 centers and schools nationwide.

Dr. Masoud Jarallah Abu Shuraida, a preacher at the Ministry, described the Al-Utrujah Endowment as a prominent model of sustained Qur’anic endowment that balances asset growth with the reinvestment of returns into Qur’anic education. He emphasized that the endowment’s real estate initiative, launched in 2022, includes 112 apartments whose monthly rental income ensures the ongoing educational mission of the centers. This income also supports modernization efforts by enhancing learning environments to adapt to rapid digital and technological changes.

Abu Shuraida highlighted a significant increase in female participation in Qur’anic studies, noting that 9,131 female students are currently enrolled. He pointed to the endowment’s crucial role in responding to this demand and fostering women’s engagement with the Holy Qur’an. He underlined the importance of this involvement in sustaining family structures, preserving identity, and upholding values amid growing intellectual and technological challenges.

The General Directorate of Endowments oversees the management and investment of the endowment’s assets, ensuring compliance with Islamic Sharia principles and the conditions set by the endowment founders. Its responsibilities include ongoing maintenance of properties, financial monitoring of revenues and expenditures, and conducting risk assessments.

Abu Shuraida explained that the endowed real estate projects serve dual objectives: they meet charitable goals while also functioning as investments. Contributions to the endowment are open to all segments of society, with shares starting at QR 1,000 or any amount within donors’ capabilities. He also noted that public support can extend to promoting awareness about endowments.

In an effort to facilitate accessibility, the Directorate has launched digital services via its website and the Awqaf app. These platforms enable users to search for available endowed real estate units and submit rental applications electronically.

Abu Shuraida expressed appreciation for the endowment founders and benefactors whose support is fundamental to sustaining Qur’anic education for future generations.
