No. 13 Alabama overcame a slow start to secure a 31-20 victory over Texas A&M on Saturday at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. The Crimson Tide snapped a two-game losing streak, improving to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in Southeastern Conference play.
Quarterback Keelon Russell played a pivotal role in Alabama’s offense, passing for 311 yards while throwing three touchdown passes and one interception. After struggling in his previous two games with just one touchdown and two interceptions combined, Russell delivered two crucial touchdown throws in the fourth quarter to pull away from the Aggies.
Alabama’s passing attack adapted effectively despite the absence of star wide receiver Ryan Coleman-Williams, who missed his second consecutive game. Backup receiver Rico Scott stepped up, hauling in six receptions for 156 yards, providing a key boost to the Crimson Tide’s offense.
Kicker Conor Talty, who had been perfect on his previous 15 field goal attempts entering the game, experienced an uncharacteristic night, missing two of three field goal tries. Nevertheless, Alabama’s overall offensive production was enough to overcome the miscues.
Texas A&M, now 4-4 overall and 1-4 in SEC action, faced mounting challenges throughout the contest. Quarterback Marcel Reed completed 14 of 21 passes for 163 yards, throwing one touchdown and two interceptions. The Aggies have encountered difficulties this season in conference play, already matching their total SEC losses from the last two years combined.
Despite keeping the game relatively close for much of the first half, Texas A&M was unable to sustain momentum against a revitalized Alabama offense that delivered in the final quarter to clinch the win. The Crimson Tide will seek to build on this performance as they continue their SEC schedule.
