The University of Alabama has awarded contract extensions and raises to two of its prominent coaches following successful postseason campaigns. Football coach Kalen DeBoer received a $2 million salary increase, bringing his total compensation to $12.5 million annually, alongside a two-year contract extension. DeBoer guided the Crimson Tide to the quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff, where they were eliminated by Indiana, the eventual national champion.
Similarly, men’s basketball coach Nate Oats secured a $1.2 million raise, increasing his salary to $7.2 million per year, also accompanied by a two-year extension. Oats led the team to the NCAA tournament Sweet 16, where Alabama fell to Michigan, the tournament’s eventual champion. Oats’s contract extension had been finalized earlier in April.
At Vanderbilt University, women’s basketball coach Shea Ralph reached an agreement on a contract extension after leading the Commodores to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA tournament, marking the program’s best season to date. This achievement was particularly notable given that Ralph’s team returned only one starter from the previous season. She also earned Associated Press Coach of the Year honors. Athletic Director Candice Storey Lee announced Ralph’s extension, underscoring its alignment with the university’s broader initiative to enhance athletic facilities through the Vandy United program, aimed at elevating Vanderbilt’s competitiveness in collegiate sports. Vanderbilt, a private institution, has not disclosed the terms of Ralph’s new contract.
These contract renewals follow strong postseason performances and reflect the universities’ commitments to retaining coaching talent as part of long-term strategies for athletic success.
