World No. 2 tennis player Carlos Alcaraz has withdrawn from the ATP Cincinnati Masters, scheduled to begin on August 13, due to an ongoing wrist injury. Tournament organizers confirmed the Spaniard’s decision on Tuesday, noting that the injury has prevented him from competing since April.

Alcaraz, the 2025 Cincinnati champion and a seven-time Grand Slam winner, has been sidelined since sustaining the wrist injury during the Barcelona Open earlier this year. The injury forced him to miss the defense of his French Open title as well as Wimbledon. In recent weeks, Alcaraz shared videos on social media indicating a tentative return to training, but ultimately he decided not to participate in Cincinnati as he continues his recovery.

Bob Moran, the tournament director, expressed support for Alcaraz in a statement, saying, “We know Carlos is doing everything he can to get back to playing tournaments as soon as possible. We wish him the best with his recovery and look forward to welcoming him back to Cincinnati in the future.”

Alcaraz’s withdrawal from Cincinnati raises uncertainties about his potential participation in the upcoming US Open, which is set to begin on August 30 in New York. The Cincinnati Masters is widely regarded as a critical warm-up event for players ahead of the year’s final Grand Slam tournament at Flushing Meadows.
