The win marked a significant turnaround for both Abrahams and Aldershot, with the striker rediscovering his scoring touch and the team showcasing resolute defensive discipline under manager Scott Davies.
After a challenging end to the 2025-26 season, during which Abrahams scored only twice, the forward opened his account swiftly in the match held at Aldershot’s home ground. His first goal came after a well-executed pass from teammate Marcus Dinanga, allowing Abrahams to break through Harrogate’s defense and place a low shot into the corner of the net. Shortly afterward, capitalizing on hesitation from Harrogate’s defenders, Abrahams converted a chance following Kiki Oshilaja’s penetration into the box.
By halftime, Aldershot led decisively, with Abrahams adding a third goal just before the break. A corner taken by Conor Lawless was nodded down by Tyrese Dyce, enabling Abrahams to fire a powerful 17-yard strike into the net. Harrogate, who had scored ten goals in their previous three games, struggled to contain Aldershot’s pace and physicality throughout the first half.
Speaking after the match, Davies praised his team’s effort, emphasizing their defensive commitment and intensity. Harrogate manager Simon Weaver acknowledged his side’s difficulties during the initial 45 minutes. “They were excellent. They looked a really hungry team and our back five didn’t handle them physically or energy-wise,” Weaver said. He also noted missed opportunities from his own team, including two open-goal chances in the first half that could have altered the momentum.
Following halftime adjustments, Weaver switched to a back four and introduced Josh Hmami, who made an immediate impact by scoring after a partial clearance by Michael Stickland. Hmami’s deflected shot reduced the deficit to 3-1, sparking hopes of a comeback.
