The Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO) convened the 11th meeting of the Arab Observatory of Architectural and Urban Heritage on Sunday at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo. The session, held in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Dialogue of Civilizations, focused on advancing regional efforts to protect and document the architectural and urban heritage of Arab states.

During the meeting, representatives discussed more than 60 heritage site files proposed for inclusion in the observatory’s registry. The selection highlights the diverse urban and architectural traditions across the Arab world. A specialized committee of experts was tasked with reviewing and evaluating these files in accordance with established registration standards and criteria.

The committee is scheduled to meet again to finalize which sites meet the conditions for official recognition and inclusion. ALECSO emphasized that the meeting reinforced the importance of fostering cooperation between the Arab League, member states, and heritage professionals. The goal is to establish a comprehensive and unified Arab system for monitoring and preserving architectural and urban heritage across the region.
