Alex Cooper’s reality series “Love Overboard,” produced by her Unwell Productions, has been canceled by Disney after one season, sources familiar with the decision reported. The dating show, which featured 22 singles competing for love aboard a yacht and was hosted by Gabby Windey, a former “Bachelorette” contestant and winner of “Traitors,” premiered on Hulu in March and ran for nine episodes.
Insiders indicated that the series struggled to gain a substantial audience, leading Disney to discontinue it. Despite the cancellation, the media company reportedly maintains a positive working relationship with Cooper and is continuing to develop several projects with her.
Cooper first gained widespread recognition as co-host of the podcast “Call Her Daddy,” which became a major hit within the male-dominated Barstool Sports network before she signed a lucrative $60 million deal to move the show to Spotify. The success of the podcast helped establish Cooper as a significant figure in the media space, leading to the creation of Unwell Productions and the launch of “Love Overboard.”
While the reality show has faced setbacks, Cooper’s business ventures remain robust. Her Unwell Beverages company recently secured an investment from Patrick Whitesell’s investment firm WTSL, valuing the company at approximately $500 million. Additionally, Cooper made headlines earlier this month by switching representation from United Talent Agency (UTA) to Creative Artists Agency (CAA).
Though “Love Overboard” has ended, Cooper’s collaboration with Disney continues. In June, it was announced that Unwell Productions is developing a Hulu drama titled “You Deserve To Know,” starring “Vampire Diaries” actors Nina Dobrev and Paul Wesley. This signals a potential shift for Cooper from reality television into scripted programming.
Representatives for both Disney and Cooper declined to comment on the cancellation or future projects.
