De Minaur’s strong form was evident throughout the weekend. After dispatching Maks Kasinowski in 57 minutes on Saturday, he continued to rebound from an early exit at the US Open by showcasing precise backhand strokes and a powerful serve. Earlier on Sunday, Australia gained crucial momentum in the doubles competition when Max Purcell and Rinky Hijikata defeated Poland’s Jan Zielinski and Karol Drzewiecki 7-6 (7-3), 6-3. This win played a key role in turning the tie in Australia’s favor after the singles matches on Saturday saw De Minaur secure a win while James Duckworth suffered a loss.

Purcell, returning from an 18-month anti-doping suspension, was instrumental in swinging the doubles match. After a tightly contested first set that culminated in a tiebreak, Purcell took control with a strong backhand return on the Polish serve and a series of aces that gave the Australian pair an early advantage. Despite intense pressure, Purcell and Hijikata maintained composure, with Hijikata holding serve and later converting a crucial forehand return to claim the match’s only break of serve.
