Alex Tuch scored twice, including the overtime winner, as the Washington Capitals defeated the Buffalo Sabres 4-3 on Saturday night. The game took place at the Capitals’ home arena.
Tuch’s decisive goal came at 3:42 of the extra period. Receiving a pass from Dylan Strome behind the net, Tuch positioned himself in the slot and beat Sabres goaltender Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen inside the left post, securing the victory. Strome contributed heavily to the Capitals’ offense, recording two goals during regulation.
Washington goaltender Charlie Lindgren made 18 saves to help preserve the win, while Luukkonen stopped 30 shots for Buffalo. The Sabres were led on the scoreboard by Jack Quinn, Josh Doan, and Noah Ostlund, each of whom scored a goal.
Tuch was acquired by Washington from Buffalo in a sign-and-trade deal during the offseason in June, adding an extra layer of intrigue to his game-winning goal against his former team. The Capitals improved their position with the victory, while the Sabres fell just short in their attempt to claim a road win.
