Alison Hammond was briefly taken off air during Tuesday’s live broadcast of ITV’s This Morning after experiencing palpitations while presenting. The 51-year-old presenter was midway through an interview with TV veterinarian Dr Scott Miller when she was seen clutching her chest before being assisted off the set by co-presenter Dermot O’Leary.
Following the incident around 11:30 a.m., the program cut to an advertising break. Upon returning, O’Leary informed viewers that Hammond was feeling unwell and had left the studio to seek medical attention. A source close to the presenter indicated she was able to walk unaided into an ambulance upon leaving the studio.
Later that day, Hammond shared a video message from her hospital bed to reassure fans about her condition. She described undergoing tests to check her heart and expressed hope that her symptoms were related to a minor issue such as a panic attack. “Honestly I am fine, first of all. I’m getting my old ticker checked out. I’m hoping it’s just a little panic attack or something like that,” she said, thanking supporters for their messages.
The presenter also apologized for her sudden departure, noting that it was unusual for her to leave a live television show abruptly. She added that hospital staff had been attentive and that she remained optimistic about her health. “Hopefully everything is fine, everything is fine actually,” Hammond said, even joking about still wearing her makeup from This Morning.
In addition to her role on This Morning, Hammond is known for presenting The Great British Bake-Off on Channel 4. No further medical updates were provided at the time of the broadcast.
