Geekend, Qatar’s leading pop-culture event organized by the Doha Film Institute (DFI), is set to take place from October 1 to 3 at the Geekdom Building on Lusail Boulevard. Now in its latest edition, the three-day festival aims to showcase the country’s dynamic artist community, while continuing to highlight gaming, cosplay, board games, and other community-driven activities.
Since its inception, Geekend has grown from a pop culture celebration into a multifaceted platform that supports artists, creators, gamers, and emerging entrepreneurs, reinforcing their role in Qatar’s expanding creative economy. Abdulla al-Mosallam, DFI deputy chief executive and founder of Geekdom, emphasized the event’s mission to provide a space for creativity, connection, and growth. He noted that Geekdom was established as a hub for Qatar’s creative community to collaborate and flourish, with Geekend serving as a tangible expression of that vision.
The event will feature a variety of zones designed to engage diverse participants, including the Geekdom Café and Geekdom Lounge, a main performance stage, and the Board Game Station managed by Majlis Shabab, which caters to players of all ages and abilities. The Geekend Market will once again offer a platform for both local and international artists and vendors, facilitating direct interaction between creators and audiences.
In addition to regular activities, attendees can look forward to several competitive events. The Catan Championship Regional Final will determine a qualifier for the 2027 World Championship, while Geekend Trivia, sponsored by Snoonu and hosted by the Nakama team, will test participants’ knowledge. Store974 sponsors Geekdom Games, a fast-paced interactive gaming contest held on the main stage.
Creative programming will be a key feature throughout the festival. On the final day, artist Salah Abu Idris will lead a live workshop focused on “Capturing Facial Expressions.” The Geekdom Draw-Off, sponsored by Qatar Calendar, challenges participants to produce themed artwork daily, with winners revealed via social media. Music lovers can enjoy three Karaoke Nights featuring songs from anime, films, and video games.
Additional highlights include Recruit Madness, a live strategic board game called “Made in Qatar,” and a cultural activation presented by the Japanese embassy. This includes cosplay photography, a kimono experience, and traditional Japanese activities, alongside a Japan-Qatar illustration contest. Winners from this contest will be announced on the final day in the presence of the Japanese ambassador.
Geekend remains a central event in Qatar’s cultural landscape, offering a comprehensive blend of entertainment, artistic expression, and community engagement.
