A Canadian woman accused of espionage while interning at NATO’s military headquarters in Belgium will remain in custody for at least another month, Belgian authorities confirmed. The Belgian Chamber of Indictments extended the pretrial detention of the suspect, identified by sources as Claire Z, according to a statement from the Belgian Federal Prosecutor’s Office.

Claire Z was arrested last month on allegations of spying on behalf of an unidentified foreign country and for involvement in a criminal organization. At the time of her arrest, she was serving as an intern at NATO’s Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe (SHAPE), located in Mons, Belgium.

Belgian prosecutors have not disclosed further information regarding the details of the espionage accusations or the specific third country allegedly involved. Efforts to reach Claire Z’s legal representative for comment were not successful. The case remains under investigation as the judicial process continues.
