American sprinting icon Allyson Felix has chosen Aspire Academy in Doha, Qatar, as a primary training base in preparation for the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The decision marks a significant step in Felix’s return to competitive track and field following a four-year retirement.

Felix, 42, a seven-time Olympic gold medalist, announced her comeback in April. She aims to compete at the Los Angeles Olympics, the city where she was born and raised. The athlete highlighted Aspire Academy’s world-class sports infrastructure and comprehensive athlete development programs as key factors influencing her choice.

“I have been visiting Qatar for many years, and each time I have received a very warm welcome,” Felix said in a statement. “I know very well the amazing sports facilities at Aspire Academy, and it is truly the best place in the world to train.” She added that it was important for Aspire Academy to be part of her journey to regain full physical fitness during this new phase of her athletic career, emphasizing her trust in the academy’s environment to support her rehabilitation and training needs.

Specializing in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 400 meters, Felix’s immediate goal is to return to competition by the 2027 season as she builds toward the Olympic Games. “It’s really about curiosity,” she remarked. “I’m not trying to be the athlete I was in the past, but I’m curious to see what’s still possible, especially since my city, Los Angeles, is hosting the Olympics. My goal is to be part of the national team, and I hope to be part of the relay team.”

Aspire Academy welcomed Felix’s decision to train on its campus, noting that her presence underscores its status as a premier destination for elite athletes worldwide. The academy also anticipates that Felix’s involvement will offer valuable inspiration and learning opportunities for its student-athletes, who can benefit from her extensive experience and achievements in athletics.
