Moisés Caicedo is nearing a return to first-team action at Chelsea, providing a potential boost for manager Xabi Alonso as the club seeks to improve its Premier League fortunes. The Ecuadorian midfielder has been sidelined since suffering a calf injury prior to the start of the season and has made only one brief league appearance, coming on as a substitute against Brighton & Hove Albion in August before needing to be replaced after 14 minutes.

Alonso has acknowledged that he may have rushed Caicedo back too soon in that match and has since taken a cautious approach to the player’s recovery. Caicedo did not join Ecuador’s national team during the recent international break, opting instead to concentrate on rehabilitation with Chelsea. Reports indicate he participated in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Portsmouth last week, a match treated mainly as a training exercise and which Chelsea lost 2-0.

It remains uncertain whether Caicedo will be included in the squad for Chelsea’s upcoming Premier League fixture at home to Bournemouth.

In addition to Caicedo’s injury concerns, Chelsea are managing fitness issues affecting several other key players. João Pedro missed the club’s 3-0 defeat to Brentford and withdrew from Brazil’s national squad during the international break. Cole Palmer also pulled out of England duty due to a muscular injury, while captain Reece James continues to recover from a hamstring problem.

Off the pitch, Chelsea have engaged in pre-application planning discussions with Elmbridge borough council in Surrey regarding potential upgrades to their training ground facilities, signaling the club’s intent to invest in long-term infrastructure improvements.
