Altrincham secured a 3-1 victory over ten-man Aldershot Town in a National League encounter on Saturday, highlighting their resilience in a closely contested match. The Robins took an early lead through Lewis Banks, whose composed finish followed a well-executed one-two with Jimmy Knowles highlighted Altrincham’s strong start at Moss Lane.

Aldershot responded swiftly at the start of the second half when Basil Tuma capitalized on a cross from Marcus Wyllie to level the score. The visitors appeared to gain momentum in the ensuing period, pressing for a chance to take the lead. However, a key opportunity was missed when Conor Lawless, positioned unmarked near the penalty spot, failed to convert a promising chance by firing over the bar. Aldershot assistant manager Mark Jones described the miss as a pivotal moment in the match.

The fixture took a decisive turn in the 80th minute when Aldershot was reduced to ten men. Dominic Odusanya received a red card from referee Martin Woods after fouling Aidan Barlow inside the penalty area. Barlow calmly converted the resulting penalty to give Altrincham a 2-1 advantage. The Robins then secured the win deep into stoppage time when Otis Khan delivered a low cross that debutant Leo Farrell finished from close range, marking Altrincham’s fifth consecutive home victory.

Altrincham manager Neil Gibson praised his team's performance, particularly their ability to adapt after conceding early in the second half. “The first 30 minutes saw some of the best football we’ve played in the year I’ve been here,” Gibson said. He expressed satisfaction with the adjustments his side made as Aldershot pressed to gain control of the match following the equalizer.

Despite the defeat, Aldershot remained competitive for much of the match. However, the visitors' frustrations were compounded by the sending off of manager Scott Davies late in the first half due to his protests over a disallowed goal for offside. Jones acknowledged the impact of the dismissals, noting the team’s ongoing disciplinary challenges. “We were well in the game, it feels harsh to have lost 3-1, but we’re getting too many red cards at the moment and until the sending off we were right in the contest,” he said.

The victory keeps Altrincham in strong form at home, while Aldershot will look to improve their disciplinary record as they prepare for upcoming fixtures.
