The 2026 Women’s Shooting Championship is currently underway at the Oman Shooting Club, featuring a competitive field of 46 participants in the women’s pistol event. Supported by the Oman Automobile Association, the championship aims to provide a platform for shooters of varying experience levels to develop their skills and gain practical competition experience.
Amal Abdullah and Bushra al Hooti are tied for the lead with 50 points each. They are closely followed by Moza bint Said al Hinai and Widad bint Khalid al Harthi, both holding 49 points. The top ten also includes Laila bint Rashid al Naabi with 48 points, Maathir bint Hamad al Hinai on 46, Mai bint Mohammed al Wahaibi at 45, Khulood al Aisari with 43, and both Hanaa bint Abdulrahman al Balushi and Shaima bint Khalid al Najjar, each with 41 points. Standings remain provisional as the competition continues through October 24.
Mai bint Mohammed al Wahaibi, making her debut in the pistol category, described the event as a rewarding opportunity that has contributed to her personal and athletic growth. She emphasized the benefits of shooting in enhancing concentration, confidence, and discipline. Competing in a new sporting environment has fueled her motivation to improve, despite the challenges of maintaining focus, composure, and precision throughout the competition. She also underscored the patience and steadiness required to manage tension and make calm decisions under pressure.
Al Wahaibi expressed hope that such championships would encourage more Omani women to explore different sports, discover their talents, and find renewed motivation through recreational activities. She called for continued support and expansion of these initiatives to further promote women’s participation in sport.
Maitha al Hasani, coach at the Oman Shooting Club, praised the participants for their enthusiasm and commitment to improvement despite their varying levels of experience. She highlighted that the championship is a valuable opportunity for shooters to refine their techniques and gain practical experience in concentration, steadiness, control, and strict adherence to safety protocols—key elements that require ongoing training and attention.
The championship coincides with Omani Women’s Day on October 17, marking a significant occasion for recognizing women’s achievements and encouraging their involvement in diverse fields, including sports.
