Amanda Abbington is set to return to television in the second series of the detective thriller Down Cemetery Road. The show, which first premiered last year on Apple TV, is a high-profile production from the creators behind Slow Horses and features prominent actors Emma Thompson and Ruth Wilson.

Abbington’s new role marks her first major television appearance since a widely reported incident during the 2024 season of Strictly Come Dancing. The situation involved Giovanni Pernice, an Italian professional dancer, who faced an official investigation following Abbington’s complaints about his conduct during rehearsals for the 2023 series. Pernice denied the allegations, and although the BBC apologized to Abbington and upheld some of her claims, it ultimately cleared him of the most serious accusations.

Prior to this upcoming role, Abbington’s most recent significant television work was in the 2023 Channel 5 thriller Desperate Measures. Down Cemetery Road’s second season is expected to further showcase her range in a dramatic context.
