Officials, conservationists, and youth gathered over the weekend in Phnom Penh to celebrate Cambodia’s natural heritage and promote environmental conservation through the event “Amazing Nature of Cambodia.” The two-day exhibition, held at AEON Mall Sen Sok City on Saturday and Sunday, aimed to raise awareness about the kingdom’s diverse ecosystems, including its forests, rivers, wetlands, and coastal areas.
The event underscored the importance of these ecosystems in providing essential resources such as clean water and food, supporting local livelihoods, preserving cultural identity, and enhancing tourism, which contributes to the national economy. By showcasing the interconnectedness of Cambodia’s natural environments and their socio-economic benefits, the exhibition sought to engage the public in ongoing conservation efforts.
Khvay Atitya, undersecretary of state and spokesperson for the Ministry of Environment, emphasized that the initiative was designed to bring environmental education directly to urban populations and young people. He noted that these groups often have limited opportunities to experience Cambodia’s natural landscapes firsthand, making outreach crucial for fostering a sense of stewardship.
The event featured various displays and interactive activities that highlighted the kingdom’s rich biodiversity and the challenges facing its natural resources. Organizers hope that by increasing public knowledge and encouraging involvement, the event will contribute to more sustainable management and protection of Cambodia’s environment in the long term.
