An Amazon drone making a delivery collided with a vehicle and crashed into a garden in Darlington, County Durham, officials confirmed. The incident occurred on Wednesday morning, with no reported injuries.
A local resident, John Peacock, was gardening nearby when he heard a loud noise. “I thought there was construction work going on because of how it sounded,” he said. Mr. Peacock described the drone as large and noted that it apparently struck the homeowner’s van before coming down in the garden.
An Amazon spokesperson stated that the company is conducting an ongoing investigation. Preliminary findings suggest that the drone inadvertently made contact with an object extending above the roof of a moving vehicle, causing the crash.
The Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) is currently examining the circumstances surrounding the event. Authorities have not released further details as the inquiry continues.
