The original series, set in 19th-century Kansas, recently logged an impressive 13.25 billion viewing minutes in the United States alone during 2024, reflecting its sustained cultural resonance. The new version, filmed in Manitoba, Canada, aims to recreate the period’s intricate details and expansive landscapes, highlighting pioneer towns, Western homesteads, and indigenous Osage settlements.
Showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, a longtime fan who began reading the Little House books as a child, said the production seeks to honor the original stories’ small, intimate moments — from traditional recipes to notable episodes — which have lingered in fans’ memories for decades. Sonnenshine described the show as a mixture of sweeping prairie vistas and detailed storytelling, with iconic moments carefully adapted into individual episodes.
Central to the story remains the Ingalls family. Luke Bracey assumes the role of Charles Ingalls, known as Pa, portraying a character defined by his warmth, optimism, and dedication to building a life on the Kansas plains.
