Everton Football Club’s American owners, the Texas-based Friedkin Group, are reportedly exploring options to sell a controlling interest in the English Premier League team less than two years after acquiring the club. The group revealed it is considering new investment opportunities amid ongoing efforts to stabilize the club’s financial and operational standing.

The Friedkin Group purchased a 94.1 percent stake in Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, in a deal valued at approximately £400 million (A$758 million). Since the acquisition, the ownership has overseen significant developments, including the club’s relocation from Goodison Park to the newly constructed 53,000-capacity Hill Dickinson Stadium last year.

In a statement, Everton acknowledged the challenges the club faced before the Friedkin Group’s takeover, citing “significant financial uncertainty and challenges both on and off the pitch.” The statement added that with the club now on more stable footing, it is an appropriate moment to consider future strategic directions.

On the sporting front, Everton has maintained a consistent presence in England’s top football division since 1954. Under the management of David Moyes, the team concluded the past two Premier League seasons in 13th place, illustrating steady if unspectacular league performance.

The potential sale signals a new chapter for the club as the Friedkin Group weighs how best to build on the progress made since assuming ownership. Details regarding prospective investors or timelines for any transaction have not been disclosed.
