KUWAIT CITY — Senior judicial officials in Kuwait took the constitutional oath on Tuesday as they assumed new leadership roles within the country’s judiciary. His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah received the officials at Bayan Palace to mark the occasion, accompanied by the Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah and Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Abdullah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah. Minister of Justice Nasser Yousef Al-Sumait also attended the ceremony.

The newly appointed officials include First Counselor Hani Mohammad Al-Hamdan, who was named President of the Supreme Judicial Council and the Court of Cassation; First Counselor Dhirar Abdullah Al-Wuqyan, appointed Vice President of the Court of Cassation and deputy head of the Supreme Judicial Council; and First Counselor Tareq Abdulatif Al-Jaber, who assumed the role of President of the Court of Appeal and became a member of the Supreme Judicial Council.

Their appointments follow the issuance of decree-law no. 80 of 2026, which reorganizes the judiciary, and Amiri decree no. 169 of 2026, which formally confirmed their postings. The reorganization aims to advance judicial efficiency, independence, and transparency within Kuwait’s legal system.

Justice Minister Nasser Al-Sumait congratulated the appointees, recognizing the confidence placed in them by Kuwait’s leadership. He highlighted the significant national responsibility associated with their roles, emphasizing the judiciary’s critical function in upholding justice, safeguarding individual rights and freedoms, and maintaining the rule of law. Al-Sumait reaffirmed the Justice Ministry’s commitment to providing the necessary administrative, financial, and technical support required to ensure effective judicial performance.

Expressing gratitude to the Amir, Crown Prince, and Prime Minister for their support, First Counselor Al-Hamdan outlined his priorities to develop the judicial system further, improve its efficiency, and uphold its independence. He stressed the importance of delivering timely justice and reinforcing legal protections for all citizens.

The ceremony and subsequent statements underscored Kuwait’s continued efforts to enhance its judiciary’s capabilities and reinforce its institutional integrity in line with broader government objectives.
