His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani and French President Emmanuel Macron attended the 9th Annual One Planet Sovereign Wealth Fund CEOs (OPSWF) Summit at the Rosewood Hotel in Doha on October 21, 2026. The event featured a showcase of participating companies and organizations, highlighting their economic and investment activities aimed at sustainability and climate-conscious development.
The summit brought together CEOs, business leaders, senior officials from various countries, and prominent figures such as Qatar’s Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani. The agenda included speeches by President Macron and founding members of the OPSWF initiative, as well as a plenary session for CEOs to discuss collaborative strategies and challenges.
In his address, President Macron emphasized the crucial role of the financial sector in mitigating climate change. He reaffirmed France’s commitment to channeling financial flows toward climate goals, noting that this has been a core conviction since the initiative’s inception in 2017. Macron highlighted the expansion of the sovereign wealth fund alliance, which now includes 51 leading global institutions. He praised the alliance's dedication to environmental sustainability and confirmed that France will continue to support this approach.
Mohammed bin Saif al-Sowaidi, Chief Executive Officer of the Qatar Investment Authority (QIA), described hosting the summit as a reflection of Qatar’s dedication to managing its capital with a long-term perspective that benefits future generations. He pointed to rapid changes in the global investment environment—driven by technological innovation, evolving energy systems, demographic shifts, and ongoing geopolitical and economic uncertainties—as factors reinforcing the importance of integrating climate considerations into asset management. Al-Sowaidi expressed pride in Qatar’s role as a founding member of the OPSWF and underscored the summit’s theme, "Capital Across Generations," as central to the QIA’s mission.
Separately, His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani held bilateral talks with President Macron during Macron’s state visit to Qatar. The discussions focused on enhancing the strategic partnership between the two countries, expanding bilateral cooperation, and exchanging views on key regional and international issues. In a statement posted on his official social media account, the Amir described the talks as fruitful and highlighted the progress in Qatari-French relations. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to consolidating security and stability and advancing the mutual interests of their peoples.
The event and accompanying diplomatic engagements underscore the growing emphasis on sustainable investment and international cooperation in addressing global climate and economic challenges.
