His Highness the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani extended condolences to prominent Malaysian leaders following recent family bereavements. On September 28, the Amir sent a message expressing sympathy to former Malaysian Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad on the passing of his wife, Dr Siti Hasmah Mohamad Ali. Similar messages were conveyed by HH the Deputy Amir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad al-Thani and HE the Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim al-Thani.

Separately, the Amir also reached out to Malaysia’s current Prime Minister Dr Anwar Ibrahim on the occasion of the death of his brother, Idrus Ibrahim. The Deputy Amir and the Prime Minister also issued condolences to Dr Anwar Ibrahim in parallel communications.

These gestures underscore the close ties between Qatar and Malaysia as well as the respect and regard held by Qatari leadership for Malaysia’s political figures and their families during times of loss.
