Kuwait’s Crown Prince Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah conducted a series of high-level meetings in New York on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly, focusing on Kuwait’s diplomatic engagement, regional stability, and international cooperation.
During the high-level week, Sheikh Sabah met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at his official residence. The Crown Prince conveyed greetings from His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah and reaffirmed Kuwait’s commitment to active participation in the Assembly. He emphasized the necessity for concerted international efforts to reduce tensions amid a sensitive global environment, calling for the strengthening and further development of UN mechanisms to address ongoing crises. Both sides reviewed regional and world developments, particularly de-escalation efforts, and discussed enhancing joint cooperation in confronting global challenges. Guterres commended Kuwait for its longstanding support of international organizations, as well as its diplomatic and humanitarian initiatives promoting dialogue and peaceful conflict resolution.
Sheikh Sabah also held a meeting with Dr. Khalilur Rahman, president of the 81st UN General Assembly session, at the UN headquarters. The Crown Prince extended congratulations to Dr. Rahman on his presidency and reiterated Kuwait’s full support for his efforts to foster cooperation among member states and promote the Sustainable Development Goals. Their discussion covered key items on the Assembly’s agenda as well as major international issues.
In addition to engagements within the UN framework, the Crown Prince met with Kuwait’s permanent mission staff, including Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah Jaber Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah and senior officials. During these meetings, he encouraged the delegation to represent Kuwait effectively on the international stage, maintain the country’s distinguished diplomatic profile, and utilize their expertise in advancing Kuwait’s interests.
Furthermore, Sheikh Sabah held bilateral talks with visiting heads of state, including Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and Estonian President Alar Karis. These meetings addressed the strengthening of Kuwait’s relations with Austria and Estonia, discussed current regional and international developments, and explored opportunities for deeper cooperation beneficial to all parties.
Foreign Minister Sheikh Jarrah also participated in a ministerial working dinner focused on Middle East issues, as well as a Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) foreign ministers’ coordination meeting. These gatherings aimed to discuss regional developments, de-escalation strategies, and preparations for future engagements with global partners.
