Seven people were killed and more than 40 were hospitalized following an ammonia gas leak at a private seafood processing plant near Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu, India, authorities reported. The incident occurred on June 21, when the toxic gas escaped from the facility and spread to nearby residential areas.
Emergency responders quickly moved affected individuals to a local hospital. Officials said 44 patients were admitted, with seven confirmed fatalities. Among those hospitalized, nine were reported to be in critical condition. Symptoms observed included respiratory distress and bleeding from the nose and mouth.
